Meet the Zen Yoga Instructors
Aaron Hoopes
Aaron Hoopes is a native of Vermont and the
founder of Zen Yoga. He is an author, yoga master and retreat
facilitator with over twenty-five years experience in the martial arts, yoga and
Eastern healing traditions. He has lived and trained in Japan, Australia and
travels widely teaching Zen Yoga, qigong, tai chi, martial arts and meditation
as well as giving performances of his Zen Sword dance.
Aaron is an inspirational speaker who lives what he
teaches. His enthusiasm for his life's work is demonstrated by his high energy
levels and unwavering commitment to teach the world to Breathe. Aaron has
helped countless people to realize and reach their highest potential, through
his dynamic, heartfelt and gentle instruction.
The Tao, Zen and Eastern healing modalities have been in
the forefront of Aaron's training, however he has also studied and practices
Shamanic healing arts which are steeped in Celtic and Lakota tradition. He has a
deep respect of the natural world and works with Plant Spirit Medicine, growing
the medicinal plants he uses to make a variety of Herbal Remedies.
Aaron lives in Vermont with his wife Elfeya. Together
they operate Ledge End Retreat & Wellness Center,
bringing peace, vitality and healing to all who come.
Aaron is available for conferences, workshops,
demonstrations and personal training. Private sessions are also available by
appointment at Ledge End Retreat & Wellness Center.

Elfeya Hoopes

Elfeya is a spiritual advisor from Australia whose
work mainly involves Animal Shamanism. Her intimate connection with the
natural world and the animal kingdom gives her a special insight into the
interconnected relationship animals play in our lives. She teaches classes
in understanding our connection to the animals and interpreting the
meaning of their appearance in our lives.
She is a Level 3
Zen Yoga Instructor and has spent years studying and practicing various
healing arts and pagan traditions including Celtic Shamanism. Her drive, input
and creativity play an integral role in the continuing development of Zen Yoga.
She is the facilitator for the Online Learning
programs, coordinator of Zen Yoga events and, together with her husband Aaron,
oversees the operation of Ledge End Retreat &
Wellness Center. She is a skilled cook and also manages the menu
planning and preparation of all meals served on Retreat.
Elfeya is also a qualified natural therapist and has
combined her knowledge of aromatherapy, herbalism and beauty therapy to create The Elven Apothecary, a range of holistic, therapeutic products which are
used extensively in the application of her Zen Body-Therapy treatments.

Sonia Mesa

Sonia Mesa a Level 2
Zen Yoga Instructor brings a life's
passion for fitness to her teaching style by offering a nurturing
environment where students are encouraged to take the breathing and
relaxation techniques learned in class and apply them to their daily
lives.
Using ten years of
classical ballet as her foundation, Sonia’s athletic endeavors have
included women’s indoor & outdoor soccer, Hatha yoga, triathlon, rock
climbing and English style equestrian. Seeking to balance these
physically demanding activities, she embraced the eastern arts first with Rinzai Zen Meditation and Chen-style
Tai Chi
followed with certifications in Zen Yoga and Wisdom
Qigong.
Sonia graduated with an
MFA in Communications from the University of Miami, where she received a
partial scholarship for her talent in screenwriting. She then spent
several years in Los Angeles working in the film industry before moving
back east.
Since returning to Miami
in 2003, Sonia leads classes in
Tai Chi, Zen
Yoga, Wisdom
Qigong and
Meditation to all ages and presents Wellness workshops to assist those
recovering from cancer. She is the creator of Zen Jump
an aerobic breathing and movement workout.
Sonia is the Chief Instructor of Zen Yoga
Miami and conducts classes, workshops and
seminars in and around Southern Florida.

Carla Bottalla

Carla Bottalla a
Level 2 Zen Yoga instructor
and a Registered Nurse. She has a Bachelor of Science degree from Loyola
University of Chicago and currently resides in Marco Island, Florida. She has
been certified with the American Council on Exercise since 1998. Her main focus
is on health promotion and body awareness.
Carla is the Chief Instructor of
Zen Yoga Marco Island
She teaches individual and/or small group sessions of Gentle Zen Yoga, Deeper
Zen Yoga, Warm Up Stretching, and Breathing Exercises. She also teaches basic
body building/awareness classes for pre-teens. She is currently involved in
Energy Healing work including Sound Therapy for Healing and is also a level 1
Reiki practitioner.
Carla loves to make a difference in peoples lives. Her
personal goal in working with teens is to encourage them to embrace their
personal success and develop self-esteem and self-respect through body-breath
awareness.
Carla is available for demonstrations, seminars, workshops
and personal training.

Ellen Brakel & Joey Lemieux
Ellen Brakel
Ellen is a Level 1
Zen Yoga Instructor and has been practicing the healing arts for fifteen
years. She has a background in Massage Therapy
from Sutherland Chan Massage and Teaching Institute, as well as Cranial Sacral
Therapy through the Upledger Institute. Ellen’s interest in self-healing propelled her to learn more about energy and movement which led her to
her certification in the Nia Technique and Zen Yoga.
Currently she is the co-founder of Soaring Heart Wellness where she teaches Zen
Yoga and Nia classes and has a healing practice.
Joey Lemieux
Joey is a Level 2 Zen Yoga Instructor
and has a deep appreciation for life and this planet and has integrated many
healing arts into his practice while studying in the U.S. and Canada. He is a
certified Body & Foot Reflexologist, Zen Yoga instructor, Permaculture Designer,
and an RCRT (Registered Canadian Reflexology Therapist). Currently he is
co-founder of Soaring Heart Wellness where he teaches Zen Yoga and has a healing
practice.

Renee Desmarais & Amy Rauber-Patton
Renee Desmarais is a Level 1 Zen Yoga
Instructor and is the co-founder of the
Möbius
Center of Healing Arts in East Hampton, Massachusetts.
She provides individualized courses/session of Zen Yoga and Reiki.
Amy Rauber-Patton is a Level 1 Zen Yoga
Instructor and teaches, works with and lives the principles
of Zen Yoga and grows along with her students. She finds that Zen
Yoga allows for a meshing of structure and flexibility which opens a world
of opportunities to people, especially to those who are easily overlooked.
She holds a M.A. in Human Development and is the co-founder of
the Möbius Center of Healing Arts in East Hampton,
Massachusetts.
She provides individualized courses/session of Zen Yoga and Reiki.
Tamela Sanitate Hartwick

Tamela is a Level 1
Zen Yoga
Instructor. She has an extensive background in dance. Her main focus in Gentle
Zen Yoga. Tamela is the Chief Instructor of the Zen Garden Yoga Studio. She
teaches individual and group classes in Gentle Zen Yoga, Deeper Zen Yoga, Zen
Kids Yoga and Chair Yoga.
She lives in Sharpsville, PA with her husband, children and
animals.

Debbie Gottlieb
Debbie
Gottlieb is a Level 1 Zen Yoga Instructor. She brings a life's passion
for Zen Yoga to her teaching style and allows for personal growth and experience
through her classes. She offers a nurturing environment that includes breathing
and relaxation techniques that are specialized to the individuals needs. In
addition students are encouraged to take the breathing and relaxation techniques
learned in class and apply them to their daily lives.
Using yoga, meditation and
mindfulness as her foundation Debbie’s endeavors have included empowering women
to take control of their lives and their bodies.
Debbie graduated with a Masters
degree in Social Work from Florida Atlantic University and utilizes these skills
when working with individuals. Her knowledge of human behavior assists in
developing interventions to help clients reach their goals.

Wendy Rua
Wendy is a a Level 1 Zen
Yoga Instructor. She is also a Reiki Master-Teacher and has incorporated Zen
Yoga into her Reiki practice.
Her main focus is to pass the gift of Zen Yoga/Reiki to others, particularly
Mothers and people in roles as caretakers. Her personal practice of Zen Yoga
has played an integral part in ensuring that the daily needs of both her
physical and spiritual natures are being met, thus allowing her to be of
greater service to others and accomplish the roles of a stay-at-home Mom and
Reiki Teacher with a more whole and present state of being.
She lives in Feeding Hills, MA with her
husband and two children.
