EAT SMART: The Zen Anti-Diet
A daring new approach to eating healthy and losing weight!
This little book is a new approach to eating and losing weight, because it is not a diet book. Instead, it is an application in the context of Zen about
healthy food and eating habits that should be part of everyone’s life. It
provides anyone the framework for achieving their ideal weight.
Eat Smart starts with the basic proposition that most of the diets we are
bombarded with daily on television, in books and other media just don’t work!
They just don’t. And the dieters who appear to benefit generally gain all the
lost weight right back. The Zen Anti-Diet is a practice of learning to be
mindful of what you are putting into your body and allowing your body to reach a
natural state of peace and contentment.
Fundamental point of this book is about Zen and becoming attuned to the present
moment. Practicing the Zen Anti-Diet is a recipe for happiness, health and long
life.
Starting at the most basic levels, Mr. Hoopes counsels a slowing down of the
food consumption process and underlines the importance of water in the human
circulatory system. He suggests maintaining a peaceful and happy environment for
eating and urges you to pay attention to the usually unheralded nutritional
value of chewing longer. He also recommends you try to avoid achieving
sensations of fullness by being mindful of the timing and the size of your
meals.
Perhaps one of the most important aspects of the book is to refrain from
consuming the many additives, chemicals and poisons found in processed foods.
Hoopes provides a number of exercises to help imprint the Zen Anti-Diet concept
in your mind and offers tools to enhance the beneficial habits of food
consumption.

Aaron does a wonderful job of going into detail about the negative effects of the various chemicals that are in our foods. Some of them I have heard of, there were a couple that I have not heard of before. But for all of them, I had no idea how bad these chemicals really are! I also like the simple and effective exercises Aaron offers to help the reader get on a healthy eating pattern, movement in place of "exercise" and proper breathing. The information is easy to understand, easy to actually do, and is to the point - no rambling on and on. I already started practicing Aaron's suggestions and I am starting to feel better! And I'm paying much closer attention to the food lables! Thank you Aaron!
Wow...The information contained in this brilliant little book should be mandatory reading for everybody on the planet! I have always suspected that those foreign and difficult to pronounce chemicals appearing in the ingredients list of just about everything available in manufactured food these days, were harmful in some way. I am so grateful to finally read and understand what most of them are and how they effect us. Clearly I will be making some immediate changes to how I feed my family. I have also been struggling with different diets over the years and the author A. Hoopes is so right....they just don't work! I highly recommend this insightful book.

It is important to eat healthy; but more so, listen to your body, feel good
about what you put into it, and enjoy every bite.
"The anti-diet" is a great concept! Having been on a yo-yo most of my life,
Aaron does a fabulous job explaining why this happens. As well he describes why
some common ingredients are so bad for humans, yet they are still on the market
in mass quantity, 'buyer beware!'
Brushing after meals is effective to stop grazing, I have used this! I love the
'water torture' idea, and though I drink a lot of water already, I will add this
trick to my lifestyle and many other tips from Eat Smart!
